NOP New Ordinary People

How is NOP sustainable?

1.

The people come first.

fair wear

The textile industry is known to have little regard for the working conditions of its employees. That’s not our case.

We choose suppliers that value transparency and are Fair Wear Foundation members because we are strongly against every form of exploitation, violence or harassment. FWF has 8 standards that make it awesome:

  • The employment is freely chosen.
  • No exploitation of child labour.
  • No discrimination.
  • The employment relationship is legally binding.
  • Payment of a living wage.
  • Reasonable hours of work.
  • Safe and healthy working conditions.
  • Freedom of association for whatever one believes.

This all might sound normal, but unfortunately, it isn't in the countries the fashion industry produces its pieces. All the factories have local teams controlling the working conditions on an almost daily basis and report monthly (the report includes also possible environmental and safety issues).

Clothes made with100% planet-friendly materials.

Organic Cotton

Ecologically Grown Cotton, is grown using natural fertilisers and pesticides. Using these natural farming methods is more respectful of water and local biodiversity, allowing farmers to grow cotton crops alongside other food crops such as oranges, tomatoes or turmeric. Furthermore, plantations where organic cotton, or Ecologically Grown Cotton, is grown to avoid the use of genetically modified seeds, thus helping to preserve seed biodiversity and soil fertility.

Advantages of Organic Cotton:

  • Respects soil and biodiversity.
  • Organic cotton products will last many years (with proper care).
  • No more chemicals and no more GMO (genetically modified seeds).

Recycled Polyester

In some of our products, we use recycled polyester combined with organic cotton. The polyester is made by recycling PET plastic bottles. To ensure that our sweatshirts are nice and soft against your skin, it is never in direct contact with the polyester, which is sandwiched between two layers of organic cotton.

Environmentally friendly inks

100% eco-certified by the OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT and by the very serious GOTS 5.0 label. Our clothes are dyed without using any banned toxic substances and printed with ecological inks.

We don't use any animal-based materials. We love animals.

3.

Transparent & consumer friendly

We manufacture on demand. In this way, we cut down all the unsold goods and promote a more rational eco-responsible consumption.

Our carbon footprint

Every piece we produce takes 0.32kWh of energy and 0.27 kg of CO2. And it takes approx 24,000 km to travel to your home (if you're in Europe).

Its trip starts from India, where the Organic Cotton is produced. The first pit stop is in Bangladesh, where the garments are sewn, washed and dyed. The second pit stop is in France (getting off the ship in Belgium) where the blank pieces are stored. As soon as you place the order, we take it, print it and pack it with some extra spice especially for you.

The water usage

Water is something much more precious than gold. The organic cotton used in our products is grown with a minimal amount of water and isn't polluted with chemicals or contaminated in any other way.

All our supplier's factories (talking about the fabric treatments and dyeing) have ETP's (Effluent Treatment Plants). So all the water used for dyeing, washing, and printing is treated by removing all the toxic elements from the wastewater before releasing it back to nature. The factories use it also for gardening 😊

There are in-house specialists in the factories and testing facilities that ensure the safety of the treated water. It's tested for PH, Dissolved Oxygen, Biochimical Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand and Total Dissolved Solids.

One Tree Planted

You buy, we plant:

NOP collaborates with “One Tree Planted” organization in order to give a hand with reforestation. One Tree Planted plants trees around the world where the planet needs them the most. No fruit trees or strange stuff: real forests for animals and biodiversity in general. We decided that we’ll plant a tree with each product you buy and this gives us a below zero carbon footprint on the long run.
